Mable – this is very useful advice. As a bootstrapped start-up we don’t yet require VC input. I shall ensure that we we do, we source them directly or from one of my existing contacts.

There is a natural inclination to use your lawyer, which I shall avoid.

Jack – can you tell us more about your failures. I often find that a good conceptual understanding of why something failed is more valuable than why something succeeded.

Especially where the failed company was beaten by a competitor in the marketplace.

Jack – thanks very much for your response. I think the overall message is that when you think its dead – keep on going.

If anything it’ll prolong the amount of time available for the “stars to align”, or more accurately, for you to find a way to make some luck.

Some very interesting thinking here, thanks.

Some thoughts. “Experience” and “curiosity” may amount to the same thing. We’re missing something around self-expression (i.e. wanting to mark ourselves as having unique personalities from those around us.)

Prestige could be widened to include other ego motivators, like “power” and “control”.

Hey Jeff – two good examples there. I know that there is a cell phone on the way which will shuffle your music playlist when you shake it, and www.moo.com do personal Flickr business cards! So that’s not a technique there.

Hi Dave, I totally agree that there some ideas which just fly out of nowhere, I try and build the chaos element in by feeding in random ideas which I see on the street or in totally unrelated corners of the Internet. This way I hope I still get the random connections that drive the chaos.

Everyone uses different systems though, which helps us end up with different ideas.
