Hi Matt, Great thought process and verry insightful.
I have always believed that Innovation can be nurtured in an organized environment and one can yield great results with organized thought process. However, personally i have found it very difficult to adhere to. Innovation is very tightly coupled with Chaos and putting any process around it may result in compromising the originality or newness.

would be eager to know your thoughts on this.

As rightly pointed out by Chris, the idea in Facebook is not earth shattering or totally unique. so what made facebook rise above the 100s of other similar ideas? Offcourse lots of things which follow after the idea, the execution, the vision, adaptability to changes, Luck (??), etc.
Single founders have been successful more often so cant blame Zuckerberg for what he has supposedly done.

I read “Niche” somewhere. if that is so, then you should be thinking of much better ways of leveraging your niche Traffic. Perhaps CPA or some actual revenue conversion should be the target. Besides since it is “Niche”, you are going to lose on the general traffic, so definitely the traffic numbers are going to be much lesser than some figures thrown in this thread.
Besides this all holds good only if you do a good job at what you are suppose to to, ie your website and the content, ;-)

Best of Luck!!
